3-MONTH MILESTONE

Foundations in Game Creation
Imagine. Design. Prototype.

Build your creative foundation through game analysis, storytelling, programming logic and your first playable prototype.

WHAT YOU'LL EXPLORE

01

Game history, rules & mechanics

02

Story structure & world-building

03

Programming fundamentals — logic, variables & control structures

04

AI-assisted concepts & storyboards

05

Concept art & visual development in Photoshop

06

Unreal Engine 5 & Blueprints fundamentals

WHAT YOU'LL BE ABLE TO DO

  • Break down what makes games work — analyse mechanics, rules and player motivation in existing titles.

  • Apply story-structure frameworks to build an original game world, premise and cast.

  • Write and reason through basic programming logic — variables, conditionals and loops — the shared foundation behind both C++ and C#.

  • Use AI-assisted tools, including 3D AI Studio and Meshy AI, to speed up concept art, mood boards and early 3D blockouts.

  • Paint and compose concept art and mood boards in Photoshop.

  • Navigate Unreal Engine 5, use Blueprints, and assemble a simple, playable level from scratch.

  • Present creative work clearly and respond constructively to critique.

YOUR COMPLETION MILESTONE

A small playable prototype, story outline and visual development portfolio.

Assessment combines your project's quality, individual contribution, documented process and presentation.

TOOLS & SOFTWARE AT THIS STAGE

Unreal Engine 5

Our primary engine for RPG production — real-time worlds, Blueprints and C++ programming.

Official software site ↗

3D AI Studio

Generates base 3D models from images or text prompts to accelerate early asset blockouts.

Meshy AI

Text-to-3D and image-to-3D generation for early assets, followed by review, cleanup and game-engine testing.

Official software site ↗

Photoshop

2D concept art, mood boards, texture painting and marketing/store-page compositing.

Software names and logos identify tools in the proposed curriculum. They do not imply certification, sponsorship or an institutional partnership. Licenses, subscriptions and tool availability will be confirmed before enrollment.

THE NEXT THREE MONTHS / IN DETAIL

What progress
looks like.

Indicative teaching sequence. These are the three months leading to this milestone; the full pathway builds cumulatively.

Month 1

Learn to think like a designer

Analyse the rules, goals, choices and feedback in Chess, Super Mario, Galaga and Dangerous Dave. Keep a play journal and prototype a simple rule change before opening an engine.

EVIDENCE YOU'LL CREATE

Game analysis journal, one-page concept and a paper prototype.

Month 2

Give your idea a world

Develop a premise, protagonist and central conflict. Explore silhouettes, mood boards and storyboard beats. Practice programming logic, variables, conditions and loops.

EVIDENCE YOU'LL CREATE

Story outline, character concept sheet, visual direction and a logic exercise.

Month 3

Build the first playable loop

Block out a small level in Unreal Engine. Connect movement, interaction, feedback and a clear goal using beginner-friendly gameplay logic. Test, revise and present.

EVIDENCE YOU'LL CREATE

A small playable prototype, visual bible and individual process portfolio.

Progress is demonstrated, not just attended.

Expect to show working builds, explain your decisions and document your own contribution. A team deliverable does not replace individual competency. Final rubrics, attendance rules and reassessment arrangements will be shared before formal enrollment.
